今年,AISL哈罗学校的七所校区迎来了新校长的上任,将与大家全方位“云对话”介绍自己的过往资历、教育理念以及他们对学校建设的新规划。

Their arrival promises new prospects for our schools.

深圳前海哈罗港人子弟学校

创校校长

陈冈博士

“我和教职团队满怀信心,为学生打造独一无二的优质教育。学生毕业时将充分具备哈罗核心价值理念和领航力。

在深圳前海哈罗港人子弟学校,我们相信真正的港式教育不仅是使用香港教材,而是从课程、教师资质、教育实践各方面都融入港学精髓。学校将以香港教育局批准的课程为基础,严选聘用有香港认可教学资格和教学经验的教师,同时在哈罗教育理念中,融入香港教育界最受认可的个性化学习实践模式。”

陈冈博士在中国香港拥有超过30年的教学经验,并曾在多所香港传统名校担任校长。陈博士于 2000 年代后期加入香港教育局,担任总课程发展主任,负责开办中学文凭试通识教育必修科目。

他曾任课程发展议会通识教育科委员会主席、香港大学教育学院名誉副教授,并曾担任香港考试及评核局公开考试(包括中学文凭试)、香港教育局资优教育咨询委员会委员。

深圳前海哈罗国际学校

Daniel Berry 先生

Daniel校长于今年8月正式上任。此前,他在英国担任多所名校的领导职务,拥有多年成功经验。他曾出任知名私立学府——英国克科姆文理学校(含走读和寄宿)的校长,并获得HMC英国校长协会认证(协会成员学校皆为世界领先的私立学校)。在担任英国圣乔治公立学校校长期间,他更带领学校收获“优等”评级。

AISL哈罗海口

Olly Wells 先生

“哈罗学校的教育理念和我本人的理念非常相近,同时我相信,在AISL哈罗集团的支持下,我和教职团队能够把优质的教学带给学生。此前,我已经到访哈罗海口多次,学校所建立的牢固基础令我印象深刻。我相信,哈罗海口拥有进一步发展的巨大机会。”

Olly校长拥有22年教学经验,在中国内地担任校长达8年,十分喜爱中国文化,尤其是茶与饮食文化。

在专业领域,他拥有英国谢菲尔德大学商业学士学位、英国伦敦国王学院教育领导力专业的硕士学位及信息技术方向教学资格认证 (PGCE)。同时,他还在英国伦敦大学学院完成了英国国家校长专业培训计划(校长资格认证),目前是英国兰卡斯特大学在读博士。

AISL哈罗北京

校长

Philip Akerman 先生

“从事教育行业,见证一代又一代孩子的成长,让他们受益于教育,是我真正的热情所在。在教育竞争白热化的今天,仅凭优异成绩,但缺乏成功路径,远不足以让孩子们高枕无忧。哈罗以兼顾学术卓越与全人教育,以及高度个性化的升学辅导而闻名,同时我们注重培养独特的才能和品格,助学生行稳致远。”

Phil校长来自英国伦敦,在今年8月加入哈罗北京。他拥有20年教育经验,在提升学术标准、教学管理、家校沟通合作等方面尤为擅长。

在过往担任校长的经历中,他曾将学校打造成为社区中最受欢迎的学校,幼儿园至毕业班的学生人数亦实现翻倍。Phil校长深信,全人教育能培养出自信、有同理心的领导者,激励学生在未来为世界作出积极贡献。

上海哈罗国际学校

Alex Reed 先生

“哈罗上海的教育团队对每一个孩子都非常了解,我对此感到非常惊喜以及印象深刻。这是哈罗最大的优势,也是我们做任何事情的出发点。人际关系是校园中最重要的部分。学生需要享受学习的乐趣,与他人相处融洽。他们能够做到比我们想象的更多,我们的工作就是确保学生有足够多的机会展示潜力。我也深刻了解到与家长建立密切联系的重要性:认真倾听家长的声音,不仅仅是关于他们的孩子。”

Reed校长在剑桥大学取得英语文学学士学位,随后获得硕士学位和英国校长职业资格证书 (NPQH)。他深耕教育事业近30年,充满热忱、经验丰富,在英国和新西兰皆有任教经验。他曾在新西兰一所顶尖私立学校担任校长,成功将其打造为新西兰学术最领先的学校之一。

他尤为注重家校紧密合作,共同培养学术卓越,并在个人、文化和社会项目中全面发展的优秀人才。工作以外,他热爱文学、戏剧和音乐、旅行和运动。

曼谷哈罗国际学校

James Murphy -O’Connor 先生

“我们对孩子的全人教育,并非嘴上说说,而是对家长郑重的教育承诺。在哈罗曼谷,我们致力培养求知若渴、拥有终生学习之热情的学生。当学生毕业时,你会看到他们成为自信而不张扬、富有好奇心和创意恩维的人才。届时,他们已做好准备,将凭借出色的技能与综合素养,为未来社会作出积极贡献。”

James毕业于牛津大学,并在剑桥大学获得教育学研究生证书。随后,他在斯坦福学校开启了教育生涯。校长拥有在多所顶尖学校担任领导职位的资深经验,包括巴斯普赖尔帕克学院、普赖尔帕克学校集团、哈伯达什拉蒙茅斯学校等,更曾受GEMS委托重任,创办了英国谢菲尔德学校。

2022年,他出任哈伯达什拉蒙茅斯集团的教育发展总监,负责管理旗下的十八所学校,进一步提升教育影响力。他将带领哈罗曼谷,进一步巩固卓越的教育成果。

日本安比哈罗国际学校

Stephen Tong 先生

“充满学生欢声笑语的校园,才是生机勃勃的校园。在新学年,我将带领学校管理与教学团队,持续提升课程质量,助力高年级同学在IGCSE收获佳绩,向梦想迈进。同时,我们将充分利用得天独厚的自然优势,把哈罗安比打造成为亚洲最顶级的全寄宿制学校,实现真正的全人教育。”

Stephen 校长自2021年加入哈罗大家庭,在哈罗深圳担任重要职务。他拥有杜伦大学历史学学位,教育经验长达32年,曾在6所英国当地学校任教,并于英格兰西南地区的一所大型中学担任了12 年校长,在高级管理岗位上有超过20年经验。他擅长学生关怀辅导,为哈罗教育团队带来了丰富的专业知识和教学经验。

在哈罗深圳期间,他凭借出色的领导能力,建立起高效的团队,大力提升学术质量,成果显著。2023年8月1日,Stephen加入哈罗安比,与前任校长进行了细致入微的交接过程,确保学校教育和运营的顺畅过渡,致力与学校团队共同助力学生收获更精彩的未来。

‘The teachers and I are fully confident about providing students with unique and quality education. A true Hong Kong-style education is more than the use of Hong Kong teaching materials.

The essence of it is reflected in its curricula, quality of teachers, education practice, and many other aspects. For instance, at our school, we adopt the curricula approved by the Education Bureau and only recruit teachers with teaching qualifications and experience recognised in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, we also blend Harrow’ s education ethos with personalised learning models that are highly regarded by educators globally.’

Dr John Tan has over 30 years of experience in leading quality education in Hong Kong and he has held headmaster positions in several elite schools in Hong Kong. He joined the Hong Kong Education Bureau in the late 2000s as Chief Curriculum Development Officer responsible for the launching of the compulsory HKDSE subject of Liberal Studies.

He has been the Chairman of the CDC Committee on Liberal Studies, Honorary Associate Professor of the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong and has sat in the Hong Kong Examination and Assessment Authority’s Advisory Committee on Public Examinations and HKEDB’s Advisory Committee on Gifted Education.

Harrow International School

Mr Daniel Berry

‘It has been one of my proudest and most rewarding professional decisions to join Harrow International School Shenzhen Qianhai. The school is built upon an envious reputation with a rich and vast history stretching back over 450 years. This historic foundation is secured by the Harrow School values of courage, honour, fellowship and humility, which influence all that we strive to achieve. Mr Berry joined AISL Harrow Shenzhen as the new School Head in August 2023, after many successful years leading schools in the United Kingdom. Before joining us, he was Headmaster of Kirkham Grammar School, an independent day and boarding school, and a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC), the professional association of the world’s leading independent schools.

Prior to that, he was Head of St.George’s School, a state school in England, which was acclaimed as ‘outstanding’ under his leadership.

AISL Harrow Haikou

Mr Olly Wells

‘The educational philosophy of Harrow School closely aligns with my own, and I firmly believe that, with the support of the Group and our dedicated teaching staff, we can deliver high-quality education to our students. I visited Harrow Haikou multiple times before joining, and I have been impressed by its solid foundation. I am confident that the school possesses immense potential for further development.’

Mr Wells has 22 years of teaching experience, including 8 years as a headmaster in the Chinese Mainland. He has a deep appreciation for Chinese culture, particularly tea and culinary traditions. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Sheffield, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from King’s College London, and a PGCE specializing in Information Technology.

Additionally, he has completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) through UCL Institute of Education and is currently pursuing a PhD at Lancaster University in the UK.

AISL Harrow Beijing

Mr Philip Akerman

‘Working in the education industry and witnessing the profound impact education has on generations of children is where my true passion lies. In a competitive world, relying solely on outstanding academic achievements without a clear path to success is no longer sufficient.

Harrow, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic education, along with its highly personalised counselling, places great emphasis on nurturing individual talents and ensuring they have a solid foundation for their future endeavours.’

Mr Akerman joined Harrow Beijing in August 2023. With 20 years of experience in education, he excels in elevating academic standards, school management, and fostering effective school-home communications.

In his previous role as a headmaster, he successfully transformed the school into the most sought-after institution in the community, doubling student enrolment from kindergarten to graduation. He believes that holistic education helps to foster confident, compassionate leaders who will go on to improve the world we live in.

Harrow International School Shanghai

Mr Alex Reed

‘I’ m deeply impressed that the faculty at Harrow Shanghai possesses an exceptional understanding of each student. This is our biggest strength and drives everything else. Building relationships is the most important part of school life.

Students need to enjoy the pleasure of learning and have harmonious interactions with others; and they are way more capable than we can imagine, so it’s our job to ensure they have ample opportunities to showcase their potential. I also recognise the profound importance of establishing close connections with parents: earnestly listening to their voices and their perspectives on education.’

Mr Reed obtained his undergraduate degree in English Literature from Cambridge University and holds a National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) from the Institute of Education in London. He strongly believes that a remarkable home-school collaboration would nurture not only accomplished individuals but also morally upright individuals who will utilise their talents to improve the world.

Mr Reed’s passions include literature, drama, music, travelling, and maintaining an active lifestyle through exercise.

Harrow International School Bangkok

School Head

Mr James Murphy-O’ Connor

‘Education of the whole child is not a sound bite, but a binding contract. At Harrow Bangkok, we aspire to give our students a thirst for understanding and a lifelong love of learning. We aim to shape our graduates into quietly confident, curious, creative thinkers, who possess the skills and qualities to make a positive impact on the communities they will serve in the future.’

James graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Modern History, and then completed his PGCE at Cambridge University. He began his career at Stamford School, and eventually accumulated extensive leadership experience in top-tier institutions, including Prior Park College in Bath, Prior Park Schools Group, and Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools. He was also entrusted by GEMS to establish the Sheffield School in the UK.

In 2022, he was appointed as the Director of Educational Development for the Haberdashers group, working across their eighteen schools. With his leadership, Harrow Bangkok is poised to strengthen its educational achievements.

Harrow International School Appi

Mr Stephen Tong

‘Schools only really come to life when they are full of students. In the new academic year, I will lead the school’s team to continuously enhance the quality of our education, empowering senior students to achieve excellent results in IGCSE and move closer to their dreams.

We will also make full use of our unique natural advantages to transform Harrow Appi into the top full boarding school in Asia, offering a truly holistic education that nurtures the all-round development of every student.’

Mr Tong has been a valued member of the Harrow family since 2021, serving as the Acting School Head of Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai before joining Harrow Appi. With an extensive teaching experience across six different schools in the United Kingdom, Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our community. Throughout his career, he has held various curricular and pastoral roles, accumulating over twenty years as a senior leader.

Stephen’s invaluable contributions to Harrow Shenzhen have made a lasting impact on the school’s development. Under his exceptional leadership, highly effective teams have been formed, leading to remarkable academic improvements. As Stephen joins Harrow Appi, he will ensure a seamless continuity and shape a bright future for Harrow Appi and its students.
